A warehouse holds the heart of a business operation, and what sits inside it deserves serious protection every hour of every day. Before signing any agreement, every business owner searching for the right warehouse for rent in Sharjah must put security at the top of the checklist.
Look for a fully covered CCTV system:
A warehouse with comprehensive camera coverage leaves very little room for theft or unauthorised activity to go unnoticed. Check that cameras cover all entry and exit points, loading bays, storage areas, and the perimeter of the building. Ask how footage is stored, for how long, and who has access to it. A well monitored facility deters criminal activity before it happens and provides clear evidence if anything does go wrong.
Check the access control systems in place:
A secure warehouse controls who enters and when. Look for electronic access systems that use key cards, PIN codes, or biometric scanning to restrict entry to authorised personnel only. These systems create a clear record of everyone who enters and exits the facility at any given time. Buildings that rely on basic lock and key provide far weaker protection and give little visibility over who has been inside the premises.
Assess the perimeter fencing and external security:
The boundary of the warehouse is the first line of defence against unauthorised access. Strong perimeter fencing, secured gates, and proper lighting around the exterior make the property far harder to breach. Walk the full boundary during your inspection and look for gaps, damaged sections, or poorly lit areas. A weak perimeter invites problems, and addressing it after signing a lease is rarely the landlord’s priority.
Confirm the presence of an alarm system:
A fully functioning intruder alarm system is a basic requirement for any serious commercial property. Check that the alarm covers all access points and that it is connected to a monitoring service or directly alerts security personnel. Test the system during your inspection if possible. An alarm that has not been maintained or is no longer active offers no real protection regardless of how modern it looks on the wall.
